POSITION: REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE

UNIT: NURSING RESOURCE TEAM

STATUS: FULL TIME

SALARY: $31.23 - $31.57

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

The Nursing Resource Team at STEGH provides support to acute in-patient Units including the Acute Medical Units (AMU3, AMU4, AMU5), the Surgical In-Patient Unit (2M), and Complex Continuing Care (CCC). A multi-disciplinary team approach is used to deliver quality health care to our patients.

The RPN’s within STEGH’s Nursing Resource Team (NRT) will be trained to work between the above noted units. The NRT RPN will be assigned to their department upon arrival for each shift.  The RPN works at their full scope of practice to provide direct care to assigned patients. The RPN practices independently when the patient’s condition is less complex such that the outcome is predictable. The RPN collaborates with the Registered Nurse in patient situations that are beyond the RPN scope of practice.

HOURS:

The successful candidate must be available to work all tours applicable to the department. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours when required to meet the operational needs of the department. 

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Registered Practical Nurse, currently registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Graduate of a recognized College program or education and experience that allows the RPN to practice at full scope
  • Current BCLS certification required
  • Previous one (1) year Acute Medical Care, and/or Surgical, and/or Continuing Care experience within the last three (3) years preferred
  • Palliative Care Fundamentals (Level 1) Certification is a definite asset
  • Must be able to adapt quickly to new environments as the department in which worked may change at a moment’s notice commencing and during the scheduled shift
  • Medication administration inclusive of IV medication administration, with a physician’s order IV management and therapy, blood transfusions, chest auscultation, complicated dressing changes, gastro-intestinal care, airway management, continuous bladder irrigation, and excellent assessment skills
  • Proven assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation skills related to medical nursing with the ability to assess changing situations and respond accordingly
  • Ability to communicate effectively, professionally and compassionately with patients and their families
  • Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with multi-disciplinary team members to ensure an excellent patient care experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to patient safety
  • Continuing education in heart & stroke and palliative care preferred
  • Proven ability to work independently, utilizing effective organizational skills in a changing environment
  • Basic computer skills (Outlook, Electronic Patient Record)
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of essential duties of the position
  • Demonstrated acceptable previous performance record in alignment with STEGH's Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Excellent attendance record in accordance with STEGH’s Attendance at Work Program

Successful candidates must provide evidence of a fully completed COVID-19 vaccination status prior to your first day of work.
