Mechanical Engineer - Thermodynamics

We are the leading worldwide supplier of steam generators used in Power, Cogeneration, and Enhanced Oil Recovery applications. This role is responsible for responding to customer bid inquiries for our products, both technical and commercial.  Also involved in this role is heat transfer design, new lead creation, the business development process and engineering/design work.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform thermal design, heat transfer calculations, ASME Sec. I analysis, industrial process.
  • Detailed technical review of Customer’s specifications, and overall plant requirements.
  • Prepare of cost estimates utilizing existing spreadsheets.
  • Size, select, price, and evaluate auxiliary equipment and systems.
  • Generate boiler layouts and flowsheets.
  • Prepare firm price and budgetary proposals.
  • Participate in, prepare, and/or lead product presentations at customer’s facilities, educating their staff on the technical and economic benefits of IST’s products.
  • Participate in international tradeshows, as required.
  • Assist negotiations of multimillion-dollar contracts with senior company sales and proposals staff.
  • Review technical specifications and contribute to decisions regarding legal and commercial contracting methods.
  • Identify market needs and wants and communicate them to development engineering to drive innovation into the product and continuous improvement.
  • Provide Design / Engineering technical support to Lead Project Engineer and Project Manager
  • Perform additional assignments / activities as required to ensure customer satisfaction.

 

Qualifications:

  • The candidate should have 5+ years’ experience with a solid engineering background. A university degree in mechanical engineering is preferred.
  • An understanding of heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and process flow is essential
  • Knowledge of combined cycle power plants, combined heat and power applications, heavy oil thermal recovery and Once Through Steam Generators is a plus
  • Registration with the PEO as a P.Eng. or E.I.T. is an asset
  • Familiarity with ASME, PED, ISO 9001 requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong numerical ability with experience in modeling software and proposal preparation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Sound Engineering Skills with exposure to mechanical design, thermal hydraulics, and manufacturing
  • Ability to manage multiple projects / activities in an environment subject to constant change
  • Enthusiastic & hard working
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required
