Maintenance Electrician

Location: Brooklin, ON (north Whitby)

About this Position

He / she is responsible for performing maintenance on all machinery and equipment and insuring that the equipment is in safe operating condition.

This position is under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and the indirect supervision of the Operations Manager.

Duties

  • On the job at the start of the shift.
  • Work a nonstandard shift as required.
  • Ensure that all electrical systems meet code.
  • Ensure that proper maintenance is performed on all machines and equipment, report any problems to the Maintenance superviso
  • Ensure that all safety guards and controls are in place and functioning properly
  • Be able to weld, use torches, and operate all standard maintenance tools and equipment properly and safely
  • Be able to assist in assembly and dismantling of machinery
  • Any other duties that he / she may be asked to perform to keep all equipment running in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Ensures that your assigned area in the shop is clean at the end of your shift
  • Ensures that the shop floor in your area is clean and free of trip hazards.
  • Individual must have the ability and knowledge to discuss technical, and machine related subjects with internal departments of our company.
  • May be required to interact with parts suppliers or outside contractors
  • Follows all Safety Rules and Regulations as outlined in the Employee Manual
  • Wears all Prescribed Personal Protective Equipment as per Employee Manual
  • Actively promotes and understands all relevant safety rules
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and the Company Health and Safety Roles and Responsibilities.  Promote our company's safety vision.
  • Ensure the machines are ready for the production operators
  • Report all non-conformances to the Maintenance Supervisor / Operations Manager
  • Works on any special projects required

Education and Experience

  • Industrial Electrician Certificate required.
  • Electrical Control Circuit / PLC programming / trouble shooting experience required
  • Working knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems would be beneficial
  • Concrete Landscape Industry experience would be beneficial

  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work independently
  • Effective written and communication skills in the English language
  • Computer skills

Working Conditions

Physical Effort – Time is spent inside buildings and outdoors, depending upon priorities of the day. Some projects require a lot of bending, climbing, kneeling or lying down for periods of time, there is a lot of walking while performing duties for the maintenance department.
Physical Environment – Normal plant work, some stress due to adherence to deadlines, which may require some overtime. The incumbent works in an average factory type building, which can be dirty, noisy, damp, and not uniformly heated. The incumbent is exposed to noise, dust, and occasional fumes.
Sensory Attention – A great deal of attention, both seeing and hearing, is required at all times. Many unusual occurrences can happen several times over the course of a day. The risk of accidents occurring is present. Attention must be given to accident potential in all areas of the plant and shipping yard.
Mental Stress – There is routine pressure from various sources to achieve results while, at the same time, controlling quality. Occasional extra pressure can be experienced as a result of unforeseen events and decisions creating conflict.
