Position Summary
Serving as the chief executive officer of the new Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice, located in Stratford, ON, the Executive Director will be responsible for the implementation of the strategic plans and policies of the start-up organization. The Executive Director will undertake the task of leading a diverse team of volunteers and staff in building, maintaining and managing the residential hospice program, while focusing on  fostering community relationships, community engagement and leading the process of operationalizing the vision, mission and goals of the Hospice Care Avon Maitland (HCAM) and Stratford Perth Hospice Foundation’s boards of directors.

The Executive Director’s key responsibility is to ensure the delivery of high quality, client driven palliative care and services that respond to the needs of patients and their loved ones.  As an effective leader, coach and mentor, the Executive Director will build a workplace environment that incorporates a team based approach to attract and retain employees and volunteers to provide care and services.  The Executive Director will implement a culture of care delivery that is based on principles associated with a home-like, residential ambience that ultimately supports high quality end of life care for all clients and their families.  The Executive Director will also be responsible for the financial health of the Hospice ensuring that business plans are put in place to keep the Hospice sustainable and able to continually offer high quality palliative care.

This is a permanent, full-time position with Hospice Care Avon Maitland. The successful candidate must be able to travel in the local area, work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
Your outstanding and unique skills will help you in your key responsibilities …

Leadership – support to HCAM board, including regular reports; strategic planning and operationalizing HCAM mission, vision, values; facilitating orientation of new board members

Government relations – advocate for government funding; current knowledge and assessment of hospice palliative care programs, service delivery, legislation and policies

Risk management and compliance – Hospice Palliative Care Association standards and best practices and generally accepted financial principles; health and safety; ongoing property and equipment operation and maintenance 

Hospice planning and policy development – develop and implement initial operational plan aligned with strategic plan, mandate and goals; ongoing quality improvements; high quality patient programs and services consistent with provincial end-of-life framework; standards of care compliance; monitor community needs

Financial management and administration – preparation of annual budget; manage financial performance; regular reports to HCAM board; effective financial administration policies and procedures

Human resources – overall leadership to all staff and volunteers; create a culture of open, respectful and professional communications; supportive of ongoing learning and development; coaching and mentorship; effective HR policies and processes including total compensation, recruitment and performance management; engage with local health care and business partners to develop meaningful relationships that establish credibility for HCAM as a leader in the field of hospice palliative care and services in end-of-life care

Community stakeholder management and funds development – key community champion, liaison, partner and advocate; principle spokesperson; build strong relationships with neighbouring hospices, government agencies, elected officials and community leaders

Qualifications
You will have the following qualifications …
- Post-secondary education in healthcare, social services, business administration or non-profit management
- Minimum 5 years relevant business and financial management experience, preferably in healthcare or not-for-profit sector
- Prior experience managing a residential hospice/hub of palliative care programs and services considered a significant asset
- Experience working with government agencies and funding agencies
- Well-developed interpersonal skills to interact effectively with colleagues, residents, employees, volunteers and community

About Hospice Care Avon Maitland
Hospice Care Avon Maitland (HCAM) is the operating company for the Stratford Perth Rotary Hospice located in Stratford, which will include ten suites (opening with eight) expected to open in March 2019. Additional spaces in the Hospice will include family gathering and meal spaces, room for family members to stay overnight if they wish, a bereavement support area, resource library and meeting rooms. We will also grow new outreach programs and play a role in developing a centre of excellence on Hospice Palliative Care for healthcare providers and the families of Perth County.
