Sous Chef

Our client in BC is in need of an Afternoon and Evening Sous Chef for a casual dinning restaurant due to our rapid expansion across Canada.

 

What You Need:

  • Min 2 years experience working in a restaurant
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to work varying shifts: afternoons, evenings, weekdays and weekends
  • A Red Seal Chef license (preferred) or working towards one 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the executive or head chef in the running of the kitchen.
  • Lead a team of chefs in preparing and cooking meals.
  • Manage the kitchen staff including setting the rotation as well as handling disciplinary and other HR issues in the absence of the head/executive chef.
  • Training new and junior chefs.
  • Oversee cooking techniques, taking responsibility for more technical elements of cuisine.
  • Check food quality - ensuring high standards of quality in the kitchen are met.
  • Design/assist the head executive/head chef to create drink and food menus.
  • Work within specified budgets.
  • Complete food hygiene documents to comply with the law and writing environmental health reports when necessary.
  • Work with the front of house teams and restaurant managers.
  • Be the voice of the kitchen when communicating with bartenders, waiters and waitresses.
  • Manage inventory and keep control of stock.
  • Negotiate and order supplies from suppliers.
  • Supervise the food preparation.
  • Organize produce and ensure strict adherence to food hygiene regulations.
