POSITION: INFECTION CONTROL PRACTITIONER
Temporary Part-time

POSITION SUMMARY: The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) infection control practitioner (ICP) acts as an expert resource to Managers/Directors, the HPHA leadership team and the organization regarding Infection Prevention and Control policy, practice and services. The ICP is responsible for assisting in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of an infection control program including: policy, procedure reviews and practices, surveillance, outbreak management, education, consultation and leadership. The ICP also provides guidance related to emergency preparedness, environmental concerns, construction, repairs and structural modifications. The ICP participates on various committees providing infection control advice, leadership and guidance.

REPORTS TO: Director, Quality and Risk

DATE REQUIRED: As soon as possible

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
• Regulated Health Care Professional in good standing with current registration with respective professional body
• Baccalaureate in related field preferred
• Current registration with the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology or a commitment to completing the certificate within two years of employment is required as a condition for continued employment
• Completion of the Infection Prevention and Control Core Competencies course (required if CIC
certification has not been obtained)

Experience:
• Minimum three years’ experience working in a hospital or public health facility.
• Infection Prevention and Control experience preferred
• Knowledge of the nature and processes of healthcare acquired infections and outbreaks in a healthcare environment, as well as investigatory and medical surveillance procedures, documentation and standards
• Demonstrated clinical expertise in required discipline
• Demonstrated research skills and knowledge of statistical software an asset
• Working knowledge in epidemiology, microbiology, pharmacology, statistics
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, be self-motivated and self-directed
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a variety of healthcare professionals

Abilities:
• Computer literate and familiar with multiple software programs
• Demonstrated ability to collect, analyse and present relevant statistics for reporting purposes and develop recommendations for improvement
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to motivate and inspire other towards professional excellence and process improvement
• Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
• Knowledge of principles of adult learning and demonstrated effective presentation skills including presentation and discussion of complex information in a manner that establishes rapport, engages, facilitates understanding
• Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking skills in decision making and problem solving
• Demonstrated ability to effectively lead change
• Maintains a confidential environment
• Documented commitment to continuing professional development
• Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle
