POSITION: COMMUNICATIVE DISORDERS ASSISTANT, SmallTalk
Primary Sites: Seaforth, Clinton
Temporary Part-Time

POSITION SUMMARY: The Communicative Disorders Assistant (CDA) under the direction and supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist, enhances the communication skills of preschool clients in partnership with their families and community. This is achieved through prevention, education, early identification and management of communication disorder/delays. The CDA is also responsible for care of the department and equipment and carrying out clerical and reception functions.

REPORTS TO: Clinical Leader, Speech Language Pathology

SALARY: $28.85 to $33.22 per hour

DATE REQUIRED: As soon as possible

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Graduate of a 3-4 year University Degree (e.g. Psychology, Linguistics, Social Work).
- Graduate of a Communicative Disorders Assistant program or a related field of early childhood education.

Experience:
- Minimum of one year experience working in a preschool speech and language program preferred.

Abilities:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to function in a team environment and follow intervention programs designed and overseen by Speech Language Pathologists.
- Ability to determine priorities and manage time effectively.
- Critical thinking, problem solving, decision making skills.
- Ability to use computer and computer generated programs for communicative disorders/delays; word-processing skills; Meditech experience an asset.
- Excellent organizational abilities
- Commitment to the standards of excellence and the concept of accountability
- Commitment to the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services objectives
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision as outlined in guidelines prepared by CASLPO (College of Audiologists and Speech Language Pathologists of Ontario)
- Ability to recognize the limits of scope of practice as outlined in the CASLPO guidelines for use of supportive personnel
- Demonstrated initiative and support of innovative and current methods of service provision.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence and Access to Own Transportation.
