Farm Operations Manager

The Farm Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the broiler and broiler breeder operations at all of our corporate farms, encompassing both Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. The Farm Operations Manager must lead, manage, build, and execute to ensure successful day-to-day operations and efficient scaling of operations in line with company's mission, vision and values. The position is responsible for developing future leaders on the farms.

 

Position Accountabilities

  • Oversee all aspects of broiler breeder and broiler production and performance owned corporately in NB and NS.
  • Ensure a rigorous bio-security plan is in place for all facilities and is being followed.
  • Ensure the live operations are following on farm food safety programs and animal care programs.
  • Oversee scheduling for breeder flocks- participate in discussions with genetic companies to monitor genetic improvements and suitability for producer/processor needs.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to ensure adequate flow of hatching eggs to hatcheries.
  • Leverage data and maintain systems to collect metrics, and set performance targets.
  • Provide direction and coaching for direct reports.
  • Develop the skills of live production managers and supervisors to optimize the genetic potential of various types of poultry.
  • Provide coaching, development, and guidance to managers and supervisors.
  • Identify and manage capital projects for live production, farm building maintenance/building replacement planning.
  • Implement company strategy related to profitability of farming operations and development of key personnel.
  • Participate in and manage the annual budget process for farm operations for the organization and support in the development of asset planning/capital expenditure planning to meet operational and strategic needs.
  • Evaluate operations with focus on continuous improvement.
  • Work with key external stakeholders including veterinarians, nutritionists, equipment suppliers, hatching egg producers.
  • Contribute to and lead a culture of safety throughout our farm operations.
  • Follow all safety processes and procedures.
  • Ensure operations' impact on the environment is minimized.
  • Provide an environment free of animal cruelty, abuse and/or neglect for our poultry. 
  • Protect the organization's value by keeping all protected and proprietary information confidential. 
  • All other duties as assigned. 

 

Position Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Agriculture, a Biology-based discipline, or other Life Science is preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in Poultry or Agriculture is preferred.
  • Progressive responsibility and management experience with demonstrated results.
  • Ability to travel (25%).
  • Self-motivated.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and written.
  • Ability to coach and develop employees.
  • Strong commitment to Health and Safety and animal welfare.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and problem-solve.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills - experience with Office 365 and Maximus controls is considered an asset.
